The Organising Committee for the 2027 World Championships in Crans-Montana has been created

At the end of May 2022, Swiss-Ski won the bid to host the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana. Just over four years before this major event, a new milestone has been reached with the creation of the World Championships Organising Committee.

Representatives of the Association of Crans-Montana Municipalities (ACCM), the Crans-Montana ski lifts, politicians and Swiss-Ski have founded the Organising Committee and elected the Steering Committee (including the president) for the FIS 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana.

The Steering Committee is made up of four people from Crans-Montana/Valais and four people from Swiss-Ski:

  • Urs Lehmann, from Swiss-Ski (President of the World Championships Organising Committee)
  • Nicolas Féraud, President of the municipality of Crans-Montana and President of the ACCM (Vice-President of the World Championships Organising Committee)
  • Philippe Magistretti, President of the Crans-Montana Aminona ski lifts (Vice-President of the World Championships Organising Committee)
  • Claude-Alain Schmidhalter, Vice-President Swiss-Ski
  • Claudia Lämmli, Co-CEO ad interim and Director of Finance and Services at Swiss-Ski
  • Diego Züger, Co-CEO ad interim and Director of Marketing at Swiss-Ski
  • Frédéric Favre, Councillor for the Canton of Valais
  • Sidney Kamerzin, National Councillor, Valais

The broad-based steering committee is responsible for the strategic planning of the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships. It was announced at the beginning of October that Caroline Kuyper would, as CEO, take over the operational responsibilities for the organisation of competitions on the Valais high plateau from 1 January 2023. Her deputy will be Daniel Bollinger, head of Swiss-Ski World Championships Ltd.

« Major international sporting events have the potential to provide a wide range of initiatives and can make things happen in sporting, economic and social spheres. Large-scale events such as the Ski World Championships play an important role in shaping the image of Switzerland and Swiss sport abroad. As President of the World Championships Organising Committee, I am pleased to be able to make an active contribution, supported by a highly qualified and committed team - and in close cooperation with the experienced World Cup Organising Committee - I am looking forward to making sure that the athletes and their teams, as well as ski fans from all over the world, experience unforgettable World Championships.

Our ambition is to organise races at the top sporting and organisational level, offering the best possible conditions and sustainable delivery », says Urs Lehmann, President of Swiss-Ski.

Nicolas Féraud, President of the municipality of Crans-Montana, says: "Nothing could be more unifying than sport! Behind the athletes’ performances, and their inspiring tenacity, there are many different people and organisations working behind the scenes to make this 2027 ski festival a success. Hundreds of volunteers, the CMA SA ski lift company, the Crans-Montana and Haut Plateau region municipalities, the Canton of Valais, Swiss-Ski and Switzerland are working together to organise this sporting event, which will gather together thousands of people. »

Philippe Magistretti, President of the Crans-Montana Aminona (CMA) ski lifts, adds: «The creation of this group marks the beginning of an era of collaboration with the municipalities of the Haut-Plateau region that will last well beyond the 2027 deadline. The discipline and professionalism of the municipal teams, Swiss-Ski and CMA guarantee success and efficiency.»

It is the second time that Crans-Montana will host the Alpine World Ski Championships after the incredible results gained in the 1987 World Championships (eight gold medals out of ten). The last time the Alpine World Ski Championships were held in Switzerland was in 2017 in St. Moritz.
