2027 Candidacy
2022: Crans-Montana wins the bid to host the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships
In 2020, Crans-Montana lost out to Saalbach-Hinterglemm in its first bid. But this time, the Swiss bid came out on top in the first round of the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships in Milan, with 11 votes - ahead of Soldeu in Andorra, Narvik in Norway (3 votes each) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (1 vote).
Immediately after the failure of the last bid for the world championships almost two years ago, Crans-Montana decided to try a second time to organise the world championships in Switzerland, as it had done in 2017 and 2003 (both times in St-Moritz).
Crans-Montana will therefore once again be hosting a great celebration of skiing, 40 years after 1987, when Switzerland won eight of the ten gold medals.
The initiators
Marius Robyr and Hugo Steinegger, the initiators of the new era of the Ski World Cup in Crans-Montana since 2008, were also the driving forces behind the bid to bring the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships to Crans-Montana.
Working closely with Swiss-Ski, they made a major contribution to the FIS's decision to bring the World Championships back to Crans-Montana, 40 years after the memorable 1987 event. Named Honorary Presidents of the Crans-Montana 2027 Association for their merits, they are pictured here with the bid logo.
