1000 days to the Crans-Montana 2027 festivities
The Crans-Montana 2027 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships organisers are pleased to officially announce the dates of the competitions, which will be held between 1st and 14th February 2027, meaning that the symbolic 1,000 day threshold to the opening ceremony of this prestigious event is crossed today.
"1,000 days may seem a long way off, but in reality it's a relatively short time for a project of this scale and importance. Over the last few weeks, a solid team has been put together, and we're moving in the right direction", explains Didier Défago, CEO of these World Championships. In fact, the organisational chart has grown, with new department heads joining the team, including Yves Mittaz, Sophie Genoud, Angelo Maina, Grégory Saudan, Magalie Perren and Pierre Favre. These key individuals are all highly experienced in the field of major events and sport, and will undoubtedly contribute to the delivery and success of Crans-Montana 2027.
"This committee has also taken over the reins of the organisation for the World Cup races that precede the World Championships. There are some major events ahead, with the men’s races on the Nationale slope in 2025, and a brand-new format using both slopes in 2026", the Vancouver 2010 Olympic champion continues. The final work required to bring the Nationale piste up to standard - artificial snowmaking on the Bella Lui sector, renovation of the high security nets and optimisation of cabling (timing, fibre optics and electricity) - will be carried out this summer, as will preparatory work to renovate the finish building.
Thanks to the support of the political authorities, the people of Crans-Montana, Swiss-Ski and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, progress in the organisation of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships has been optimal, and the event, which aims to be authentic, high-performance, unifying and sustainable, is taking shape, thanks to the enthusiasm of these figures. From 1st to 14th February 2027, Crans-Montana will not only be celebrating sport and competition, it will also be a showcase for the hospitality, expertise and extraordinary landscapes in the region.
The Municipality takes the stadium project to the next level
Most of the major work on the Nationale stadium will take place in 2025, starting in March and continuing until it is completed, which will be a real challenge for all the companies involved! Work will however begin this spring to tidy up the pipes, fibre optics and other low, medium and high-voltage electrical cables. In a few weeks' time, the rock above the finish building will be blasted, the first step in securing the wall to the west of the stadium, as the recently updated hazard map classifies this sector as a high-risk area. Although the route of La Vanire torrent will be modified in 2025, a first section will be refurbished this year. And this spring will see the start of work by the Canton of Valais on the Étoile traffic circle, at the start of the Barzettes road leading to the Nationale finish stadium.
