The International Ski Federation (FIS) Council has made their decision : Crans-Montana/Valais will not be hosting the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2025. The candidature committee had already anticipated this decision, and with the agreement of Swiss-Ski, has announced that it will be immediately launching into the race for the 2027 Worlds.
We can be confident that the World Championships will be held on the Haut-Plateau once again in the near future, after the first time in 1987, thanks to the strength of the dossier that was presented. Enthusiastically supported by Marius Robyr and Hugo Steinegger, the bid received positive and promising feedback from the FIS. The online presentation to the FIS Council, introduced by skier Michelle Gisin, was also very well received. The multilingual speech by the Olympic champion and Crans-Montana/Valais 2025 ambassador presented the candidature for the World Championships "as a great opportunity to get young people involved in snow sports ".
Crans-Montana satisfied all of the demands in the bid process. The reason that the Valais resort was not selected to host the 2025 Worlds is not due to the quality of its candidature, but rather due to a "political dimension", as stressed by the president of Swiss-Ski, Urs Lehmann "and the turn of countries and continents has to be taken into consideration", emphasises the ex-downhill world champion, who is also the vice-president of the candidature committee for the World Championships.
In this context, Austria was the favourite, with the Saalbach-Hinterglemm candidature (12 votes). Crans-Montana/Valais and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, also taking part in their first election, both received 1 vote (1 abstention).
The Swiss-Ski candidate for the 2025 World Championships, for which Crans-Montana/Valais was the organiser, has been strongly supported by the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Valais, as well as by the Association des communes de Crans-Montana ACCM and the CMA ski lift company. Federal councillor Viola Amherd says: "Crans-Montana has always demonstrated its talent and experience as a host of competitions of all sizes". "This is why Crans-Montana is a place that is ideal and destined to organise this sort of event", adds the Swiss sports minister. "Ideally, this will be the case in 2027."

Well-received work and ambitions for 2027
The Bid Committee for the Alpine World Ski Championships in Crans-Montana/Valais is unanimous: despite their defeat, the 2025 presentation has been nothing but positive. The Haut-Plateau resort now has its eyes fixed on 2027, with big ambitions and plenty of confidence. A few reactions.
